Saint Ignatius: a trip to 16th century Guipuzcoa.

Walk and get to know and feel the landscape of the soul: a trip to the 16th century.

Step by step, we are going to discover the Land of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, a universal figure, a seasoned pilgrim and the founder of the Society of Jesus; we will get to know the region where he spent his childhood and most of his youth, we will also become acquainted with the period in which he lived, the 16th century, exploring the Urola Erdia, Urola Garaia and Debagoiena districts in the province of Guipuzcoa.

We invite you to jump back in time 400 or 500 years and to experience the very same scenery and atmosphere as our ancestors did.

Saint Ignatius is well/known for being a prolific walker: the pilgrimage and spiritual retreat made by Saint Ignatius was a means of fully realizing his aim of helping the human soul.

The figure of Saint Ignatius has deep roots in this region with a rich artistic and architectural legacy, which was in line with the spirit of the Renaissance and the dawn of Humanism: the rapid development of civil and religious art, changes in lifestyle, economic and social values,... It was a period of great prosperity in our region.
