Salt Museum (Leintz-Gatzaga)

The Salt Museum is on the lands used for centuries for its production, close to the urban centre and on the way to Dorleta Sanctuary. The salt industry has been closely tied to Leintz Gatzaga since its foundation, not to speak of its development throughout history. The cold, humid climate of the town did not favour solar evaporation for salt production, so a careful process, heating the water with wood fires, was used.

The museum explains the evolution of the salt industry that began in the Iron Age and continued until 1972, the year it closed permanently.
