ARRIKUTZ, the Cave at Oñati

Arrikutz is part of the Gesaltza-Arrikutz Karstic system, located in the Aizkorri mountain region. It is a limestone cave created during the Lower Cretaceous (between 154 and 96 million years old). The system, made up of 14 km of interconnected galleries and 6 superimposed stories, is the largest cave system in Gipuzkoa.
The tour takes visitors to Gallery 53, in the eastern sector of the Arrikrutz cave system, a fossil gallery and the ancient bed of Aldaola river, passing through large galleries with interesting stalagmites.

Throughout the tour inside the cave, the guide will cover subjects such as water, the geological formation of the cave, the origin of the mineral universe, and the archaeological and paleontological findings in Arrikrutz.
